Ted Tihansky received his formal art training at the ART STUDENT'S LEAGUE in New York City at PAlER COLLEGE OF ART and LYME ACADEMY OF FINE ART in Connecticut.

Ted's portrait commissions have included Robert Ven ditto, president of THE PROVIDENCE ART CLUB; the late Dr. Theodore Eddy, former president of RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE; Retired Rear Admiral Joseph Strasser, former president of THE NAVAL WAR COLLEGE, and Joan Forsberg, Dean of YALE DIVINITY SCHOOL. Each of these paintings are in the permanent collection and can be viewed during scheduled hours.

In 1991, Ted was awarded the prestigious JOHN STOBART LANDSCAPE FELLOWSHIP, a five-thousand dollar cash reward with the opportunity to show at the Lyme Academy Fine Art Gallery. During his fellowship, Ted traveled and painted in Washington, British Colombia, Pennsylvania, ending a month on Monhegan Island, Maine.

Mr. Tihansky has studied with landscape painter Don Stone; Portraitist Aaron Shikler; Ronald Sherr and Harvey Dinnerstein; - all internationally known.

1994/1995 Ted traveled throughout the United States and Europe painting the cities of Naples, Fl; Minneapolis, Mn; SL Thomas, USVI; France; Portugal; Spain and the Czech Republic. While in Prague, Ted painted over 60 canvasas; many framed and inset with the Czech coin.

In November of 1995, Ted opened the THEODORE TIHANSKY FINE ART AND PERFORMANCE GALLERY on Franklin Street in Newport. He received wide recognition for his uCollaboration of the Arts~ production. In August 1996, the gallery moved to the heart of Newport - Bowen's Wharf

In February 1998, NORTHWEST AIRLINES WORLD TRAVELER magazine wrote a five-page spread entitled 5Brushes with Greatness. This publication was featured on every Northwest Airlines flight in the country.

In 1999, Ted traveled across the United States in support of the HASBRO CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL promoting the infantcy unit. Sponsored by the Rhode Island Foundation for Children, Mr. Tihansky's artwork was presented at the
PROVIDENCE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER in Providence, Rhode Island.

Ted has taught periodically at the SOUTH COUNTY ART ASSOCIATION or conducted private classes in Newport. He returned in September 2000 to the ART STUDENTS LEAGUE in New York to further his artwork.

In December 2004 Ted was shown at the COSMOS CLUB in Washington DC during which Ted was noted as being “among the more important current artists who are carrying on the traditions of the great artists who preceded them on Monhegan.” For more information about this show please call 207-596-7231 or email theoart@earthlink.com
